This morning, the GOES-18 satellite snapped a photo of the Sierra Nevada and its new snowpack deposited over the last few days from the first major winter storm of the season.
The UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab, (CSSL) which monitors snow conditions, reported this morning:
New 24 hour snowfall of 0.6″ (1.5 cm) at the lab. This brings our storm total to 34.8″ (88.5 cm). You may notice that our storm total was 34.3″ yesterday and 34.8″ today even though we got 0.6″ of snow. Why? Because we do our measurements in centimeters and occasionally get rounding errors when converting to inches as a result.
A graph from the CSSL website shows that so far, snowfall has risen above the median values.
