Repeated rounds of early snow fell on the peaks and passes of Too-Ashu Mountain in Kyrgyzstan, reports Signs of the Times.

Snow in August and September in Kyrgyzstan, while not unheard of, is rare. The first appreciable snow doesn’t usually fall there until October, but not this year.

“Snow has fallen on the Too-Ashu pass in Zhaiyl district of Chuy region on September 2, drivers told Turmush,” Sign of the Times wrote. “This was the second snowfall this summer-autumn season. The first snow fell on the night of August 27-28, [road service workers] said.”

Despite the road through the pass being quite winding, and considered treacherous, the snow was light enough that it did not disrupt traffic or result in any reported accidents, according to police in the region.
