California’s Tioga Pass through Yosemite National Park Closed by an Early Snowstorm

Last week, Cold Weather Report noted that snow advisories had been issued for the Southern Sierra Nevada mountains, the earliest date of a snow advisory in 20 years. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Yosemite National Park, predicting snowfall of 2–5 inches above 9,000 feet

Snow did indeed fall from that storm system and, in response, Caltrans District 10 closed California State Route 120 (Tioga Pass) in Yosemite National Park temporarily on September 18, 2024.

The road closure lasted a full day. After snowplows cleared the road, Caltrans reopened Tioga Pass on September 19 at 10AM.
