WION reports that a large avalanche occurred in the Sarbal area of Sonamarg in Kashmir on April 29.

“An avalanche occurred in the Sarbal area of Sonamarg in Kashmir on Monday (April 29), causing traffic chaos as well as triggering panic among people and livestock in the area,” wrote WION. “A video that emerged on social media showed the massive avalanche hitting a forest area, thus resulting in no casualties.”

The avalanche came amidst heavy snow and rainfall in the mountainous region. The Watchers reports that video captured humans and livestock fleeing the avalanche, which forced the “closure of critical transport routes including the main Jammu-Srinagar highway.”

“India’s Border Roads Organization … soon launched a snow-clearing operation near the site under name ‘Project Beacon,’” reported WION.
