With cold temperatures putting a chill on the Great Lakes all spring, summer opened with only a few spots warm enough to swim. Even in the southern Great Lakes of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, water temperatures remained primarily in the 50s after the Summer Solstice.

On his Twitter account, meteorologist Joe Bastardi highlighted Lake Superior’s cold temperatures.

“Look at these temps. I can’t remember seeing it that cold in the middle of summer,” wrote Bastardi.
