Electroverse reports that portions of the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine have received an early taste of winter with unusual amounts of snowfall for this early in the season.

“October snow in the Carpathian Mountains, particularly Ivano-Frankivsk, is considered rare,” wrote Electroverse. “While flakes do typically begin falling around this time of year, snow of this magnitude—13 cm (5 inches)—is usually reserved for late-October/November.”

The snow was accompanied by freezing temperatures, measured at -3℃ (26.6℉) by the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ agency, the State of Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU).

Due to these worsening conditions, the SESU suggested that people postpone hiking trips in the Carpathians, where more snow is expected in the coming days.

“Please refrain from traveling to the highlands during this period of adverse weather conditions,” SESU advised.

Posts about the snow accompanied by photographs were posted on social media outlets, such as, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
