The South African Weather (SAW) service issued winter weather and storm warnings for three South African provinces and the country of Lesotho, Snow Report wrote on July 26.
Heavy snowfall was forecast for various mountains in South Africa’s Western Cape, with lighter snowfall predicted at lower altitudes and flatlands. Widespread light to moderate snow was also predicted to fall across parts of the Eastern and Northern Cape, with the SAW saying that Lesotho, a small country surrounded by South Africa with a popular ski resort, Afriski, should also expect some snow.
The SAW warned that some mountain passes could become treacherous, and that the storms accompanying the cold front could disrupt road and ship traffic in the country’s western and southern ports. Small boat owners were advised to shelter in bays or ports.
