Kelly Slifka, a meteorologist with Channel 3000 in Madison, Wisconsin declared “Alert Day[s]” for April 2nd and April 3rd, due to expected accumulating snow.
“Alert Day for accumulating snow from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday,” wrote Slifka. “Windy throughout the system, especially Wednesday.
“Rain will transition to snow late Tuesday morning or Tuesday afternoon, with scattered snow showers expected to continue overnight Tuesday and for most of the day on Wednesday.” Slifka continued. “The falling snow and possible accumulation will create ALERT DAY conditions Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. Total accumulations from this system will be around 1 to 4 inches, with higher amounts possible further north and east of Madison.”
Because daytime highs early in the week are expected to be above freezing, snow and ice that falls may melt only to refreeze overnight, making travel conditions hazardous.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the snow might impact the elections and the Milwaukee Brewers’ opening home game, which are both being held on Tuesday April 2.
“The most recent forecast shows that the snowfall has a “medium chance” to bring two or more inches to southern Wisconsin, with higher chances and potential snow totals in east central Wisconsin,” writes the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “Northeastern Wisconsin has the potential for four inches of snow, with some areas like northern Kettle Moraine having the chance for six inches or more.”
