GBN warns of a major cold event to hit Great Britain in the coming days:

Britain is set to be colder than Iceland next week as temperatures plummet to -6C in another cold snap.

Forecasters suggest high pressure could be blocked from the UK which will see “cold air masses” – causing temperatures to rapidly decrease.

They say the cold air plunging southward from the polar region will drop temperatures so much, Great Britain is likely to be colder than Iceland, “Conditions across the UK will largely be colder than Reykjavik, Iceland, which experiences temperatures between -3C and 3C on average at this time of the year.”

The Birmingham Mail newspaper also reported on the cold, adding that significant snow will come with the cold blast:

A new snow alert has been issued to the UK as the Met Office warns of Arctic “hazards” next month. A fresh snow warning has emerged as the Met Office hints at Polar conditions sweeping into the UK in February after this week’s cold snap.

A forecast from the Met Office from February 4 to February 18 said ahead of the second month of the year, which is set to arrive next week: “Into early February there is an increased likelihood of high pressure having greater influence on UK weather patterns.
