The Telegraph reports that wet, cold weather has resulted in the moat surrounding Hampton Court Palace in London freezing.

“The moat surrounding Hampton Court Palace has frozen over for the first time in at least a decade, as forecasters warned of more snow expected to fall next week,” said The Telegraph. “Officials said it was an extremely rare occurrence for the moat at the palace in south-west London, which is usually dry, to flood and freeze.”

Tom O’Leary, the director of public engagement for Historic Royal Palaces, posted on X, formerly Twitter, “So thanks to wet weather the rare sight of a full Hampton Court moat continues, and we have ice. Not going to risk a skate quite yet,” along with a picture of the rare sight.

The cold weather is expected to continue for the coming week, possibly accompanied by snow, with the U.K.’s Met Office warning that an arctic blast is expected to dominate the weather.

“There will be a resurgence in the really cold weather through the weekend, and that spreads across the whole of the UK during the early part of next week,” Will Lang, head of situational awareness at the Met Office told The Telegraph.
