With a series of video posts, AccuWeather reports moderate to heavy snow fell across the great plains to the Mississippi river valley, beginning on January 5, through the weekend.

“Friday, January 5, brought wintery weather from the Central Plains to the Mississippi valley, blanketing towns large and small with snow,” said the scroll along AccuWeather’s video report.

By January 6, the National Weather Service (NWS) had issued winter storm watches for large swaths of Missouri and Kansas, reported KTTN and Kansas Public Radio. Snow accumulations were forecast to top 10 inches in some areas with winds gusting above 50 miles per hour, the combination of which, according to the NWS, would create whiteout conditions making venturing outdoors or travel extremely dangerous.

The wintery conditions across the center of the United States dipped as far south as the Panhandle of North Texas, as WFAA reported:

While we’ve had a cold, wet week in North Texas, we haven’t seen anything in the way of snow or wintry precipitation.

That’s a different story in the Panhandle, about 375 miles northwest of Dallas.

A winter storm hit the Amarillo area Thursday, bringing bands of moderate snowfall into Friday morning. Another round of possible snow could hit the Panhandle on Monday, according to KVII’s latest forecast.
