Latvian Public Broadcasting (LSM.lv) reports that May is starting off cold in Latvia with some areas anticipating a record “frost episode.”

Discussing the unusually cold spring, LSM.lv writes:

In the second half of this week, one of the coldest spring frost episodes in recent years is expected in Latvia, according to forecasts.

Over the next eight nights, the air temperature will be below zero, the biggest frost is expected on May 5 and 6 when the thermometer bar could fall to -6℃ and even lower temperatures are possible on the surface.

Rain and snow are expected to be small and short-term in the coming days, the sun will often shine, and the wind will blow slowly from the north.

LSM.lv warns residents to tend to their plants since the well below average temperatures and frost could devastate even plants “that are usually resistant to spring frost.”
