“Scotland sees first snowfall in September as temperatures drop below 0℃,” the Daily Record reported on September 11.

The U.K.’s Met Office blamed the winter weather coming early on an “Arctic blast,” which the agency warned was not fluke but rather an indicator of the weather likely to persist throughout the week.

“Scotland has had its first snowfall of the season – in September,” said the Daily Record. “People in the Highlands woke up this morning to snow lying on the ground as temperatures dropped.”

The Met Office said temperatures could drop even lower in the coming days.

“A cold front sweeping south will introduce arctic air to the UK, resulting in below average temperatures nationwide this week,” said a Met Office spokesperson.

Temperatures were forecast to drop to as low -2℃ or even lower by the weekend. Although the Met Office reports that the United Kingdom as a whole has and will continue to experience below normal temperatures throughout the week, only Scotland is likely to see snowfall.
