CTV News reported that scattered snowfall was reported across parts of Ontario on September 8.
A sharp drop in temperatures prompted Environment and Climate Change Canada to issue frost advisories for parts of Ontario as temperatures dropped to near or below freezing for short periods of time.
Mattawa, Ontario and the Prince George area of British Columbia also reported early snow, with snow falling on September 7, according to Weather AM. Weather AM said that summer and fall appear to be doing battle across parts of Canada with below normal temperatures arriving in the Western Provinces. By contrast, central Canada remains hot and eastern Canada is experiencing normal temperatures for late-summer.
The drop in temperatures and snowfall was driven by the jet stream dropping out of the arctic, which is being kept at bay by a high pressure system holding fast in the central part of the country.
