Last week, the National Weather Service (NWS) in North Platte, NE made a forecast for a significant spring snowstorm, saying:
A springtime storm system will cross the Great Plains Wednesday into Thursday, bringing rain, snow, and strong winds to the region. A few thunderstorms and fairly significant moisture totals are possible for central Nebraska, while the greater potential for accumulating snow lies in western Nebraska. Northerly winds will gust above 40 mph at times on Thursday, which will result in significantly reduced visibility in any snowfall.
The storm lived up to the forecast. According to the story in the Omaha World-Herald, Record snowfall shuts down I-80 in western and central Nebraska; system grazes Omaha.
The story continues with a NWS report that North Platte set an all-time daily snow record:
The National Weather Service in North Platte observed 17.4 inches of snowfall as of noon Friday. That total included an all-time single-day record set Thursday, when 15.3 inches of snow fell. Thursday’s single-day record shattered the previous record of 13.9 inches that was set Jan. 18, 2023.
