Summer Snowfall in the Alps

Despite it being summer, some places in the northern hemisphere are still getting snow. The website snow-forecast.com reports:

Despite record high temperatures in the Mediterranean and valley temperatures reaching +30C in recent weeks in the Alps it has managed to snow in the past 24 hours on high slopes.

More unsettled weather moved into the mountains in the past few days, bringing gale and even hurricane force winds and torrential rains at times.  This has closed lifts at times and in the more severe cases caused flooding and other weather-related disruption.

Temperatures have also dropped above about 3,000m altitude and ski areas have been reporting fresh snow lying on mountain peaks this morning. Pictured [above] is the Zugspitze Glacier in Germany.

Elsewhere, in Italy, the story of fresh snowfall is repeated. Powder magazine reports:

The Italian Dolomites woke up to a beautiful coating of fresh summer snowfall this morning, July 26th, 2023.
