Record cold temperatures hit New Hampshire over the Father’s Day weekend, with snow falling at elevations as low as 5,000 feet. While the establishment national media utilized the onset of summer as an opportunity to claim global warming is causing unusually warm weather, the record cold New England temperatures were largely buried under the rug.
Cameras at the Mt. Washington Observatory showed blustery snow and ice during the weekend. The observatory warned people against frostbite and hypothermia if they ventured outdoors at Mt. Washington or other area mountains, even as the Northern Hemisphere enters the summer solstice and the longest day of the year.
Meanwhile, the national media focused relentless attention on heat in some parts of the country, while ignoring the record cold in others. Getting lost in the media messaging is the fact that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s U.S. Climate Reference Network – implemented in 2005 as the most accurate network of temperature stations throughout the country – shows no warming trend at all. Some places experience record warmth, some experience record cold, and the overall trend of no warming defies claims of a climate crisis.
