Several Low Temperature Records Fall in the Upper Midwestern United States

Anomalously cool temperatures have been the story for much of the U.S. this past week.

According to unofficial records compiled by coolwx.com, a host of daily cold benchmarks have been toppled in recent days, most notably on August 9 and 10:

The map above shows the upper central Midwest having many new low temperatures set on August 9th. Here are a few examples:

Hibbing, MN:

Hastings, NE:

Baker, MT:

Kansas City, MO:

Russell, KS:

In addition, as reported Monday on Cold Weather Report, many cities on the East Coast set or tied cold temperature records on August 21st.
