“Environment Canada has issued a frost advisory for parts of the region, including the Chatham and London areas, as well as Midwestern Ontario,” reported CK NewsToday, on May 30. “The advisories are in effect for London and Middlesex County, Elgin County, Oxford County, Huron County, Perth County, Grey County, Bruce County, and Chatham-Kent.”

As temperatures across the affected areas fell to near freezing, defying the official designation of Spring, the weather agency warned residents to take precautions due to plant damaging frost.

Temperatures on May 30 dipped to near record setting lows for this late in the year. However, meteorologist Peter Kimbell told CK NewsToday that the cold temperatures and frost in late-May although “strange” are not unprecedented.

“We have had these cold temperatures before. We had cool temperatures [at the] end of May 2021 and 1897. Even colder than that in early June, June 11th the record was minus .6 [Celsius] in 1972,” Kimbell told CK NewsToday.
