KVOA.com Tucson reports that residents in Southern Arizona are excited by the announcement that the southernmost ski resort in the United States, Mount Lemmon Ski Valley, 40 miles South of Phoenix opened on January 26, following a recent heavy snow in the region.
“The ski area relies 100% on natural snowfall to operate, and announced today (January 24, 2024) that enough snow has fallen to open …,” reported Powder.com. Mount Lemmon Ski Valley, which lies about 2 hour’s drive from the Arizona’s border with Mexico, rises from Sonoran Desert valley to 9,157 feet above sea level.
“The ski area has delayed opening multiple times over the last two weeks after storms failed to pan out, …,” writes Powder.com, but “a shift in the weather pattern,” delivered heavy snow early last week sufficient to open the slopes.
