The Scottish Sun reported that Scotland barely experienced summer in July, with temperatures there being well below the norm for the month, setting records for daily low and daily low maximum temperatures in various locations.
“A GRIM new weather record was set in an area of Scotland last night as temperatures plunged into the single figures,” says the Scottish Sun. “STV weatherman Sean Batty revealed that the mercury registered a chilly 1.7℃ in Tyndrum and Tulloch Bridge last night.
“And a new July low was set in Bishopton in Renfrewshire with a cold 5.1℃,” the Scottish Sun continued. “The previous record of 5.3℃ set 23 years ago in 2001.”
Further South in Scotland, on July 30 temperatures dipped to 4℃ at Drumalbin and nearly to freezing, at 2℃, in Eskdalemuir.
The country as a whole barely breached the mid-20s during the entire month of July. The last time Scotland experienced a colder July than 2024’s, was in 2007.
STV News reports that the maximum temperature recorded in July 2024 across Scotland was 25.2℃. To put that in perspective, this means 2024’s maximum July temperature was 69th out of the past 84 years, or the 15th lowest maximum.
Based on prevailing winds and forecast weather patterns, STV’s meteorologist Sean Batty suggests that Scots can expect the mix of miserable for summer weather to continue, with limited warmer temperatures before autumn commences.
